Next year, I'm thinking of having a couple of new features. Nothing crazy...still bookish, so no worries. :o) I'm thinking about having at least one Southern book pick/review and/or one Oldies book pick/review per month. The Southern book pick is self-explanatory - just give me something with a Southern setting. *wink* Historical Southern books would be all the better!
However, the Oldies book pick is a little different.
When I think of oldies when it comes to books, no, I don't think back to the classics. (Sorry in advance to all the Jane Austen fans.) No, this blog will still focus strictly on the Christian Fiction genre, but an Oldie book will be anything written from the year 2000 going back. I've got a TON of books on my shelves, most of them from authors who have been writing for ages, but there never seems to be any time to read these older books because of all the newer ones that claw their way to the top. No worries...new Christian Fiction will still be featured here on a regular basis just like it currently is. The Oldies book pick would just be once a month (same for the Southern pick).
To give you an idea of some of the authors that would fit the Oldies category, here's a list:
- Tracie Peterson
- Gilbert Morris
- Davis Bunn
- Michael Phillips
- Judith Pella
- Brock & Bodie Thoene
I really like the idea for Oldie Book pick. I know what you mean -- all the recent releases get read first, and the books published a few years ago get shoved deeper to the bottom. I'd love to see you feature some here! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie. I've really been wanting to do the Oldies pick for awhile now, but didn't know if it would appeal to anyone else. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ;o)
ReplyDeleteOh you HAVE to do the oldies book pick, because I am in the same boat -- and maybe it would help motivate me to revisit some "classics" of the CBA. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea. I like it.
ReplyDeleteRuth, I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one here struggling with guilt over not reading my older books...hehe. :)
ReplyDeleteJuju, thanks for sharing your opinion! Glad to see that people seem to like it so far. ;)
I like the oldies book pick, there are a probably a lot of older books some of us have missed and would really enjoy, we just need our memories jogged as in, I remember seeing that or hearing about that but got so busy with life they got passed over.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else - the Oldies book pick would be great (as would the other :)). I'm so young that in 2000 or earlier, I was in high school and not reading as much. I'm sure I missed a lot of great books, and it would be great to see some of the best books before that time featured here. Thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteI like them both! I guess since I'm Southern, too, I really like that feature. But, I really like the oldies feature, too, because I've got lots of them on my shelf! :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds good to me too. I just started reading Christian Fiction a couple of years ago so I'd love to be introduces to the 'oldies'. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThough I just LOVE the books that are coming out, I still love those 'oldies' books that were published back when I started reading books. I'd enjoy reading reviews of those older books.
ReplyDeleteGO FOR IT.
Oldies would be great. It would make me feel like I'm back in high school. Ha ha...
ReplyDeleteApparently, the oldies would be a hit! :o) I've been sniffing out some oldies on my bookshelf, and can't wait to find some goodies for next year.
ReplyDeleteThanks to y'all for sharing your votes and opinions. I appreciate it so much! :o)
